Understanding the notice

What an NOI means in D.C.

The D.C. Department of Buildings may issue a Notice of Infraction for construction-code, housing-code, property-maintenance, vacant-property, and other violations. The notice identifies the alleged infraction, corrective action, response instructions, and applicable deadlines.

DOB files NOIs with the Office of Administrative Hearings. Depending on the notice, the matter may involve correcting work, submitting proof of abatement, a civil fine, a hearing, or a final order.
